Sommer's family has deep roots in Aiken County, and her ancestors have resided in the area going back to a time pre-dating the Revolutionary War. A cabin dating back to the 1820s currently serves as the tack store, said Sommer. "My great-grandfather, John Sommer, was a blacksmith in Montmorenci and his father had been the mayor of Aiken." Although Sommer was born in Savannah, Ga. and was raised in New Orleans, La., she considers Aiken home, and says the family farm fits like an old shoe.
The store derives it’s name from Johanna’s horse “Zachmeister." "He's my project," says Sommer. "His racing career is over, and I'm making sure he has the kind of life he deserves."
